Fort Lovrijenac
Built along a 37-meter rock face, this 16th-century seaside fortress hosts theatrical performances
About Fort Lovrijenac
Croatia
At 37 metres above sea level, climbing the steps to Lovrijenac Fort is worth the effort for the sweeping views of the old town, ocean and mountains of Dubrovnik. Originally built to defend the city against the Venetians, the fort is now a popular venue hosting weddings and live performances throughout the year. Look for the famous inscription carved in stone above the entrance: “Non Bene Pro Toto Libertas Venditur Auro” – “Freedom is not to be sold for all the treasures in the world”.
