About Hofburg Palace
Austria
The Hofburg Palace is vast, covering more than 240,000 square meters, and consists of multiple wings, courtyards, and buildings that showcase a variety of architectural styles. The Imperial Apartments are the former private rooms of the Austrian emperors, notably Franz Joseph I and his wife Empress Elisabeth (“Sisi”). The rooms are exquisitely decorated with lavish furniture, antique tapestries and stunning period furnishings. The Swiss Wing houses the Imperial Treasury, one of the most important collections of imperial regalia including the Austrian Crown Jewels, ceremonial robes, and the legendary Holy Lance. The gothic-style Imperial Chapel is famous for being the site of the Viennese Court Mass and where the Viennese Boys’ Choir sings every Sunday. Founded in the 16th century, the Spanish Riding School is one of the oldest equestrian academies in the world. It is located within the Hofburg and is famous for its training of the Lipizzaner horses in classical dressage.
