About Belvedere Palace (Schloss Belvedere)
Austria
Belvedere Palace is a magnificent historic complex located in Vienna, renowned for its stunning Baroque architecture, beautiful gardens and extensive art collection, including one of the most important collections of Austrian art in the world. The palace complex consists of two main buildings, the Upper Belvedere and the Lower Belvedere, as well as beautifully landscaped gardens in between. The Upper Belvedere is the more monumental of the two palaces and is the main part of the complex open to the public. It is famous for its Baroque architecture, grand staircases, and ornate ceilings. Notably, it houses the world’s largest collection of works by Gustav Klimt, including the iconic The Kiss, one of the most famous paintings of the Viennese Secession. The Lower Belvedere is a more intimate building, originally used as Prince Eugene’s private residence, houses temporary art exhibitions and a section dedicated to baroque art. The Belvedere Gardens are a significant feature of the palace complex and are renowned for their formal Baroque design, designed to complement the architecture of the palace, offering symmetrical pathways, fountains, sculptures, and beautifully maintained green spaces.
