Baroque-style church built in the 18th century, featuring frescoes and sculptures
About Church of San Francesco (Chiesa di San Francesco d’Assisi)
Italy
The Church of San Francesco d’Assisi is a fine example of Baroque architecture. Its construction began in the mid-18th century, following the destruction of an earlier church by the 1743 earthquake. The church’s façade is simple yet elegant, with a prominent bell tower. The interior is adorned with beautiful frescoes, altars, and sculptures that reflect the religious and artistic culture of the time. The church’s late 18th-century side, designed by Gaetano Jurleo, adds to its charm and is perfectly integrated into the layout of the square. The Palazzo di Città next door and the church’s proximity to other historical buildings in the square make it an important architectural site in Ostuni.
