About St Mark's Square (Piazza San Marco)
Italy
St. Mark’s Square is the central public square of Venice, Italy, and one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. Surrounded by stunning architecture and historic buildings, the square is often referred to as the “drawing room of Europe” due to its grandeur. It is the heart of Venice, hosting some of the city’s most famous attractions, including St. Mark’s Basilica, St Mark’s Campanile, Doge’s Palace and Museo Correr. St. Mark’s Square is famous for its large population of pigeons and feeding them has been a popular activity (though it’s now regulated). The sight of thousands of pigeons flying around the square adds to the vibrant atmosphere. And while you will pay an exorbitant price for a cup of coffee at any of the numerous cafes lining the square, there are few more beautiful places to do so in Venice.
