About San Giorgio Maggiore Church (Abbazia di San Giorgio Maggiore)
Italy
Located on San Giorgio Maggiore Island, just across from St. Mark’s Square, San Giorgio Maggiore Church is a 16th-century masterpiece designed by Andrea Palladio famous for its perfect Renaissance architecture, stunning interior and breathtaking views from its bell tower. The exterior features a grand white marble façade, inspired by Roman temples, and a perfectly symmetrical design, reflecting harmony and balance. With fewer crowds than St. Mark’s Campanile, the belltower offers a spectacular view of St. Mark’s Basilica, the Doge’s Palace, and the Venetian Lagoon – and it has an elevator!
