Trulli of Alberobello
Traditional conical huts unique to the Puglia region
About Trulli of Alberobello
Alberobello
These structures are an iconic symbol of the region and are celebrated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for their architectural and cultural significance. Trulli are dry-stone huts with conical roofs, traditionally built using overlapping stone slabs made from local limestone. The exact origins are unclear, but trulli date back to prehistoric times and became widespread in the 14th century when they were designed to be easily dismantled to avoid taxes. You can see trullis in the Rione Monti and Rione Aia Piccola neighbourhoods, as well as scattered throughout the surrounding countryside.
