About The Bern Bear Park (BärenPark)
Bern
The Bern Bear Park (BärenPark) is one of Switzerland’s most famous attractions, continuing a centuries-old tradition that began in 1513. Since 2009, Bern’s bears have lived in a modern 6,000-square-metre park along the banks of the Aare River, connected to the historic Bear Pit by a tunnel. The new park offers a spacious, natural environment featuring grassy hills, caves, and even a “Bear Bath” in the river. The original Bear Pit, now a listed cultural site of national significance, remains part of the complex and is accessible to visitors. The entire facility is wheelchair-friendly and open for self-guided visits or guided tours, where guests can explore both the historic and modern enclosures while learning about the long-standing bond between Bern and its symbolic bears.
