Walkable ramparts with views of the town and surrounding countryside
About Óbidos Walls
Óbidos
The Óbidos Walls are an iconic feature of the historic town of Óbidos, which date back to the Roman period, though much of what can be seen today was constructed during the Moorish and Medieval eras. The walls once served as a defence system to protect the town from invaders, and they stretch around the entire historic centre, offering a glimpse into Óbidos’ strategic importance over the centuries. Walk along sections of the Óbidos Walls for stunning panoramic views of the town’s whitewashed houses, narrow cobblestone streets, and the surrounding countryside. The walls are punctuated by several gates and towers, each with its own historical significance. Some of the best-preserved sections are near the Porta da Vila, one of the main entrances to the town.
