About Noia
Galicia
Often overlooked in favour of Santiago, Noia offers an intimate glimpse into medieval Galicia, with narrow stone streets, elegant historic houses and churches gathered around a compact old town. Its location at the head of the Ría de Muros e Noia also gives it a strong maritime character.
One of its most intriguing sights is Santa María A Nova, whose medieval cemetery contains an extraordinary collection of around 500 carved tombstones, many decorated with symbols representing the occupations or status of the people buried there. The town also retains remnants of its medieval walls and the former Fortaleza de Tapal.
