Juliet’s Balcony
Famed balcony said to have inspired Shakespeare’s classic Romeo and Juliet
About Juliet's Balcony
Italy
The ever-popular Juliet’s Balcony is said to have inspired Shakespeare to write one of his most famous plays – Romeo and Juliet. The site is part of a 13th-century building known as Casa di Giulietta (Juliet’s House), believed to have ties to the Capulet family, although the connection is largely symbolic rather than historical. Juliet’s House has been transformed into a museum showcasing the life and times of the era in which Shakespeare’s tragic love story is set. In the courtyard below the stone balcony, is a brass statue of Juliet herself which tradition suggests that touching the statue’s right breast brings good luck in love.
