Palazzo Marigliano
Renaissance-style palace in Naples with a grand courtyard and staircase
About Palazzo Marigliano
Campania
Palazzo Marigliano is a Renaissance-style palace located at Via San Biagio dei Librai 39, in the heart of Naples. Commissioned by Bartolomeo di Capua, Prince of Riccia, the palace was designed by architect Giovanni Francesco Donadio, known as Il Mormando, and constructed between 1512 and 1513. Over the centuries, the palace underwent significant changes. In the 18th and 19th centuries, it was modified to include a grand internal courtyard and a remarkable double-ramped staircase connecting two levels. The original façade, adorned with Ionic columns, was simplified with a marble band to reflect changing architectural styles. During World War II, the building was damaged by bombings in 1943, but after the war, it was restored under the direction of Don Francesco Marigliano del Monte. The palace later became the home of “Il Giornale,” a newspaper associated with the liberal philosopher Benedetto Croce. Today, Palazzo Marigliano is a beautiful example of Naples’ architectural heritage, with its elegant Renaissance features, including the grand double staircase and the restored courtyard.
