About Basilica di Santa Chiara
Campania
The Basilica di Santa Chiara in Naples, built between 1310 and 1328, is a beautiful Gothic church and monastery complex founded by King Robert of Anjou and Queen Sancia of Majorca. Known for its elegant design, the church features pointed arches, ribbed vaults, and a central nave with ten side chapels. It is home to the tombs of several Neapolitan royals, including King Robert and his wife. The complex also boasts a monastery, an archaeological museum, and the Majolica Cloister, which is decorated with colorful ceramic tiles depicting biblical scenes. Though damaged during World War II, the basilica was restored to its original Gothic style and remains a significant cultural and religious landmark in Naples.
