About Medina Azahara
Andalucía
Designed as a luxurious royal city with palaces, gardens and administrative buildings, Medina Azahara was constructed between 936–940, symbolising the power and splendour of the Umayyad Caliphate. The grand structures were mostly destroyed in the 11th century during a civil war however the ruins which remain today offers a fascinating insight into the golden age of Al-Andalus. Recognized in 2018, Medina Azahara is one of Spain’s most important archaeological sites. The Interpretation Centre features exhibits, reconstructions and artifacts that bring the lost city to life.
