About Schloss Hellbrunn (Hellbrunn Palace)
Austria
The baroque Hellbrunn Palace located just a few kilometres from Vienna’s city centre, was built in the early 17th century and is famous for its architectural beauty, historical significance and unique water features. The palace itself is a stunning example of baroque architecture, designed to serve as a summer residence and place for leisure and entertainment. The building’s elegant interiors, which include several festive rooms and salons, give visitors an insight into the luxurious lifestyle of Salzburg’s aristocracy during the 17th and 18th centuries. One of the most famous and unique features of Hellbrunn Palace is its Trick Fountains. Designed by Sittikus in the early 1600s, these fountains are designed to surprise and entertain. Water jets, hidden from view, splash unsuspecting guests strolling through the gardens creating a fun and whimsical experience. The fountains are set in a beautiful park that also features wooded areas, man-made grottoes, and ornate sculptures. The Hellbrunn Pavilion is another famous part of the estate. It is a simple but charming building, made famous as the location for the “Do-Re-Mi” scene from the beloved film The Sound of Music. Adjacent to the palace is the Hellbrunn Zoo which is located on the grounds of the palace and features a wide range of animals on display.
