About Piazza Navona
Italy
Surrounded by bars and cafes, Piazza Navona is the perfect place to people-watch in Rome. The large square built on the site of the ancient Roman Stadium of Domitian, stunning Baroque architecture surrounds an open oval-shaped public space, adorned with beautiful fountains. Most famous of all is Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi (Fountain of the Four Rivers). Designed by Bernini, this stunning centrepiece features allegorical figures representing the Nile, Danube, Ganges, and Rio de la Plata rivers. At the southern end of the piazza, Fontana del Moro depicts a Moor wrestling a dolphin, surrounded by tritons, and at the northern end, Fontana del Nettuno Neptune is shown battling a sea monster, surrounded by playful sea nymphs.
