About Hungarian Parliament Building
Budapest
The Hungarian Parliament Building, known as Országház in Hungarian, is one of the most iconic structures in Budapest and a symbol of Hungary’s national pride. Situated along the Danube River on the Pest side, it offers a stunning view, especially when illuminated at night. Construction began in 1885 and was completed in 1904, based on designs by architect Imre Steindl. The building is a masterpiece of Gothic Revival architecture, featuring elements of Renaissance and Baroque styles. At 96 metres tall and 268 metres long, it is one of the largest parliament buildings in the world. Its symmetrical facade is adorned with spires, arches, and statues of Hungarian leaders, while the interior is richly decorated with gold-leaf, stained-glass windows, and grand staircases. The central dome, one of its most impressive features, houses the Hungarian Crown Jewels.
