About Archaeological site of Mycenae
Greece
The Archaeological Site of Mycenae, located in the northeastern Peloponnese, was one of the major centres of Greek civilisation during the second millennium BCE and gave its name to the Mycenaean civilisation. Flourishing between roughly 1600 and 1100 BCE, Mycenae was home to powerful rulers and legendary figures like Agamemnon. Key features of the site include the massive Cyclopean walls, the imposing Lion Gate, the Royal Tombs (including the so-called Tomb of Agamemnon or Treasury of Atreus), and remains of palatial structures. Today, Mycenae is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offering a vivid insight into the Bronze Age world that inspired Homeric epics.
