About Arab Baths (Banys Àrabs)
Catalunya
Located near the old Jewish Quarter of the city, the Arab Baths were built in the 12th century under the influence of Islamic design, showcasing the city’s historical connection to Arab culture during the period of Muslim rule in Spain. The structure follows the traditional layout of Roman-style baths, featuring a series of rooms designed for relaxation and cleansing. Explore the frigidarium (cold room), tepidarium (warm room), and caldarium (hot room), each of which served a specific purpose in the bathing ritual. The baths also include a central courtyard with a vaulted ceiling that allows natural light to filter in through the openings, creating a serene and atmospheric environment. Though the baths were originally part of a larger building complex, the site has been well-preserved and now functions as a museum, offering r a glimpse into the daily life and traditions of Girona’s medieval residents.
