The Tower of London is a historic fortress and former royal palace located on the north bank of the River Thames. Founded by William the Conqueror in 1066, it has played many roles throughout history, including as a royal residence, prison, treasury and armoury. It’s most famously known for housing the Crown Jewels, which are on display for visitors to see, as well as for its connection to the executions of notable figures like Anne Boleyn. The Tower is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and features a variety of exhibits detailing its fascinating history, with a particular focus on its military past and royal associations. The Beefeaters, or Yeoman Warders, still serve as ceremonial guards and offer tours filled with historical anecdotes.
