Dramatic seaside cliffs featuring O’Brien’s Tower and a visitor centre
About Cliffs of Moher
Co. Clare
The Cliffs of Moher are one of Ireland’s most iconic natural landmarks, located on the west coast in County Clare. Rising to heights of up to 214 metres and stretching for about 8 kilometres along the Atlantic Ocean, they offer dramatic views of the rugged coastline and the Aran Islands in the distance. Formed over 300 million years ago, the cliffs are composed of layers of sandstone, siltstone, and shale, creating striking patterns in the rock face. The area is a designated UNESCO Global Geopark and a haven for wildlife, especially seabirds such as puffins, razorbills and guillemots. The site features a visitor centre built into the hillside, with interactive exhibits about the cliffs’ geology, wildlife, and cultural history. Several walking trails lead along the cliff edge, providing breathtaking panoramic views and photo opportunities. On clear days, the scenery is unforgettable, with waves crashing below and dramatic skies above, making the Cliffs of Moher one of Ireland’s most visited and awe-inspiring destinations.
