About Trajan's Forum (Foro di Traiano)
Italy
Trajan’s Forum, built in 112 AD under Emperor Trajan, was the largest and most magnificent of Rome’s Imperial Forums. Designed by architect Apollodorus of Damascus, it served as a grand public and administrative space, showcasing the power and prosperity of the Roman Empire. The forum’s centrepiece is Trajan’s Column, a 30-meter-tall marble column adorned with intricate reliefs depicting Trajan’s victories in the Dacian Wars. Surrounding the column were the Basilica Ulpia, libraries, and an open piazza lined with colonnades. While some parts are visible from the streets, such as Trajan’s Column and the general layout of the forum, access to the deeper areas of the site requires a ticket, which usually includes entrance to other Imperial Forums, such as Caesar’s Forum and Augustus’ Forum.
