Piran’s central plaza, named after composer Giuseppe Tartini, surrounded by historic architecture and sea views
About Tartini Square (Tartinijev trg)
Piran
Named after the famous 18th-century violinist and composer Giuseppe Tartini, who was born in Piran, Tartini Square was once an inner harbor before being filled in 1894 to create the open space seen today. At its centre stands a bronze statue of Tartini, created by Venetian sculptor Antonio Dal Zotto, honouring the musician’s legacy. The square is elliptical in shape, reflecting its past as a tram terminus in the early 20th century, and its current layout was designed by architect Boris Podrecca in the 1980s. Historic buildings surround the square, including the neoclassical Town Hall, the Gothic-style Venetian House, and the Church of St. Peter, which dates to 1818. Tartini Square is the social and cultural heart of Piran, offering a lively atmosphere and serving as a gathering place for events and everyday life, with views of the town’s architecture and the nearby Adriatic Sea.
