About Postojna Cave
Postojna
Postojna Cave is one of the most famous and largest karst cave systems in the world, located in southwestern Slovenia, near the town of Postojna. Spanning over 24 kilometres, the cave is known for its impressive stalactites, stalagmites, and unique formations that have been shaped over millions of years. The cave system features a network of passages, chambers, and tunnels, with the highlight being the underground train ride that takes you deep into the heart of the cave. This train ride is followed by a guided walking tour that showcases some of the most spectacular formations, including the “Brilliant” (a large, dazzling stalagmite), and various other stunning stalactites and mineral formations. Postojna Cave is also home to the famous “human fish” (Proteus anguinus), a rare and blind amphibian that lives in the cave’s waters. The cave’s temperature remains constant throughout the year, making it a year-round destination.
