Piccolomini Library is a stunning feature within the Siena Cathedral known for its breathtaking frescoes. The library was commissioned by Pope Pius II, born Enea Silvio Piccolomini, to house manuscripts and books dedicated to his family and papacy. It was designed by architect Giovanni Antonio Bazzi (Il Sodoma) in the 16th century and is renowned for its vivid frescoes by Raphael’s pupils, including Bernardino Pinturicchio. The frescoes depict scenes from the life of Pope Pius II, along with the history of Siena. The library also contains valuable manuscripts and is one of the most important Renaissance artistic and cultural sites in the region.
