About Giotto's Bell Tower (Campanile di Giotto)
Florence
Giotto’s Bell Tower is one of the most recognisable landmarks in Florence, standing beside the Florence Cathedral (Duomo) in the Piazza del Duomo. Designed by famous Italian artist Giotto di Bondone in the early 14th century, the tower is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture, showcasing intricate detail, vibrant colours, and striking proportions. The campanile is made of white, green and pink marble, which match the colours of the Duomo. Its base is adorned with beautiful sculptural reliefs and decorative panels, and it stands at 82 metres tall, making it one of the tallest structures in the city. Climbing the 414 steps to the top of Giotto’s Bell Tower rewards you with one of the most spectacular views of Florence. From the top, you can enjoy a 360-degree panorama of the city, including sweeping views of the Duomo, Piazza della Signoria, and the surrounding Tuscan countryside. It’s one of the best spots for taking in the beauty of Florence from above and capturing memorable photographs of the city’s skyline.
