Berlin, Must Sees and What to Avoid

Berlin, Must Sees and What to Avoid – Participate in ‘true’ Berlin life and blend in with the locals in your exploration of this ever evolving city. Undertaking our Berlin City Break will enable you to get a true feel for the city’s cultural and historical routes, as well as participate in a day trip to Potsdam just outside Berlin City. If you don’t have time or simply want to discover yourself, here are some good starting points for a fabulous few days in this German haven.

Morning

Start your day with a stroll along the beautiful Landwehr Canal and you’ll fall in love with Berlin before the day has even really begun. Then, dive into Mitte’s art scene and find newcomers next to well-known galleries around Auguststraße and the surrounding neighbourhood. Take a look into me collectors room; if you are well-prepared, you can also pre-book a tour around Boros Bunker or Sammlung Hofmann to have a glimpse of some of Berlin-Mitte’s most sophisticated private collections.

Lunch

Relax with a delicious meal and aperitif at Mädchenschule or one of the many fancy restaurants on Torstraße.

Afternoon

For shop-o-holics, the boutiques lining the sidewalks of the „Ku’damm“ (Kurfürstendamm) and the recently opened concept mall Bikini House will be the perfect match. Photography fans will be satisfied with two amazing exhibition spaces next to the Zoologischer Garten, Berlin’s former central station: The Helmut Newton Foundation and C/O Berlin, as well as the less-known but influential Berggruen Museum.

Evening

For your final hours in Charlottenburg, visiting the former hotspot of artists and VIPs, the Paris Bar, is a must – take some time for food, nibbles and/or drinks and soak up the aura of old and glamorous West Berlin.

Steer Clear

Checkpoint Charlie is probably the most anticlimactic city attraction; although it was once the site of a hostile Cold War standoff between the US and the USSR, it is now just a hut on a busy road where students dressed as soldiers charge tourists for photographs.

In general, Berliners can be quite rude, especially on public transport and as pedestrians. There’s no need to adopt this custom, just keep calm and carry on!
